Here in San Diego, there are beautiful sunsets galore that inspire new designs for paintings, mosaics and graphic art. She was bright and goofy and always fun to have around. I had many endearing names for her and I still think of the silly names I called her on a daily basis. My favorite was Luna the Tuna. I don't remember why, but the name stuck with us for her whole life.

I gave her to my husband as an anniversary gift, she was the fifth of a litter of 13 puppies. My daughter Sarah and I drove to Washington state from Salem Oregon and along the way, we talked about whether the car would be big enough to carry a Great Dane puppy back to Oregon. I have been in love with Great Danes ever since.

In the months after she came to live with us, we became the best of friends and bonded for the rest of her life. I have so many stories from over the years and there will never be another like her. She brought such joy to my life.

My memories and computer are full of her. There is only one answer to this...it is nature. There is an endless supply of variations in texture, color, composition for each and every new inspiration or creation. It's all there and ready to be reassembled into more exciting mosaics. Mosaics of light, color, line and movement.

A couple of days ago, I read a wonderful article in the LA Times about artist Robert Irwin and the central gardens that he designed at the Getty Center in Los Angeles. What amazed me was that it was met with controversy because it was done by an artist instead of a garden expert. These gardens are alive with movement and interesting color and texture variations to celebrate nature and his own artistic vision.

Here is the article:
http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/arts/la-hm-irwin24-2008jul24,0,5566108.story
